Dubai
In 2007 I spent six months working for a magazine in Dubai but was unable to to produce any work that was critical of the Government. The UAE has a strangle hold on media freedom, a measure used to silence the various human rights abuses that have been allowed in their drive to produce latest and greatest in hospitality and leisure. In 2008 I got the chance to go back and photograph the labour workers who had been drafted in from the worlds poverty zones. Upon arrival these men’s passports were seized, they were often paid much less than they had been promised and they spent their lives in isolation – living in purpose built compounds, carefully hidden from the eyes of the world.
