BIO

I was born in Northern Ireland in 1982. Over the past four years I have received grants from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland to document health and social issues across Canada and Europe. This work has been published globally and exhibited in galleries and universities. In 2008 the Royal Photographic Society awarded me a postgraduate bursary to undertake a project on youth gang culture in London in collaboration with an MA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at the London College of Communication. This work was published in the spring 2009 issue of Foto 8 magazine and exhibited at the Noorderlicht photojournalism festival in Holland in September 2009.

Since graduating from the LCC I have worked with the BBC’s Panorama documentary team in Dubai, Chile and the UK in various capacities. I have also been commissioned in a stills/video/writing capacity addressing issues such as the slave labor trade in Dubai, the rise of cheap heroin in Wales and highlighting a campaign to release victims of Californian 3 strike law. Currently based in my homeland of Northern Ireland I am working on a project looking at the transition of the paramilitary group the UDA and how they are adapting to life after the Troubles. I was given a special mention at this 2010 World Press Photo awards for my part in smuggling a camera to trapped Chilean miner Edison Pena, who then photographed conditions while trapped underground.
